Shakeology Review: Weight-Loss and for Lean Muscle Mass

Shakeology has been marketed as a weight loss meal replacement by Beachbody. Derived from whole-food sources, Shakeology delivers daily vitamins, minerals and other nutrients your body needs to curb cravings, which therefore, makes you eat less and shed weight faster. I had heard great things about Shakeology and wondered if this so-called ‘meal replacement’ might benefit someone like me who was already lean but looking to add more lean muscle mass. As a Beachbody coach, I decided to try out the product myself so that I could give honest feedback/opinion about it to my clients. I have to admit, I was fairly skeptical when I started taking Shakeology just over a year ago but within days I began to notice a difference.  Yes, I generally felt better, but even more unexpectedly, I realized that my frequent bouts with headaches (something I’ve suffered with since I can remember) was gone!  No longer was I popping Advil and Excedrin like breath mints!  That was my first clue that this product is amazing.

Okay, so I felt “better” but another concern I had was that Shakeology might make me feel full so I’d eat less and lose weight – not something someone looking to bulk up really needs!  I made sure not to use it as a meal replacement and to my surprise, after 30 days, I only lost about 2 lbs but I lost 2% bodyfat!  I also got stronger and my muscles got bigger and more dense!  That was it.  I was hooked!

On a side note, when I began taking Shakeology I was working 2 jobs – full time electrical engineering and I was still putting in 4-6 hours per day on my business as a Beachbody Coach. Even with the crazy schedule, I still did my intense workout at 1.5-2 hrs per day. I had only 4-5 hours of sleep daily. That was a very bad schedule and not many would be able to function properly like that for very long. But I was doing fine, in fact, improving with my workout, for example, I lifted heavier, did more pullups, pushups etc. How, I and others wondered?  The only thing I really changed was that I drank Shakeology daily.

So can Shakeology help you gain lean muscle mass? Yes, indirectly. It is a superfood with great ingredient and nutrients that helps your body to recovery, boost your immune system, and helps to rebuild the damaged muscle tissue. When you do your workout intensely, you need all the help you can get to recover your muscles from the intense workout so that they could grow bigger. So thats what Shakeology does – it provides all the essential crucial nutrients that your muscles just craving! And that is my opinion on how Shakeology could help you. I and few of hardgainers have tried it, and they said the same thing.

Keep in mind that bodyweight isn’t a big factor in looking and feeling good. It’s all about bodyfat % and how you look. People have told me that I look around 180 lbs, but Im only at 158-160 lbs. Just because you’re big and muscular, you dont need to be heavy, as long as you’re ripped. The more cut you are, the bigger you look, and the less your bodyweight is. Being lighter isnt necessary bad – you could do better workouts- like pull-ups- and you have better agility with sports skills etc.

For those who are trying to lose weight, I’d recommend having Shakeology for lunch or dinner. Having it for lunch would be more ideal as you take it during the day and could provide your body with essential vitamins and nutrients– you would be more alert at work or school, and have the same effect as the 5 hour energy drink. Plus, drinking Shakeology for lunch would be a great way to cut down your lunch cost as you’re no longer spending $10 for a healthy lunch.

For those who are lean and trying to improve their muscle mass, I’d recommend taking Shakeology for breakfast. One thing with lean people is that they usually neglect good breakfast, so Shakeology would fix that problem. I usually add in 1/2 to 1 scoop of whey protein on my Shakeology mix and have that for breakfast. Most of us have about 200-300 cal for breakfast anyway, so that mix of shakeology would be great. That way you’re not sacrificing much with your daily caloric intake. Just remember, taking Shakeology alone is not the answer to gaining mass – you need to LIFT HEAVY! Shakeology would just aid you in reaching your goal. You might be having difficulties gaining mass now because your body isn’t getting enough crucial nutrients that it needs, so this might be the answer. Try it out daily for 30 days and see whether it helps you or not. You won’t know until you try it!
