Eat that Frog!

If you eat a frog first thing in the morning, the rest of your day will be wonderful.” – Mark Twain.

The book Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy, discusses how to stop procrastinating and manage daily tasks successfully.

In short, people typically manage daily tasks by doing the easy and quick things first.  The thinking is that they’ll just get that stuff out of the way so they can focus on the more difficult tasks later.  The problem is that this choice often wastes your reserves of energy and focus and by the time you’re ready to hit the more challenging tasks of the day, you feel drained and unenthusiastic.

For some of us, that hardest task of the day would be working out.  For optimum results, it requires as much physical and mental focus as we can summon.  Many of us put it off until the very last thing and then try to squeeze it in to our schedule at the end of the day – or just postpone it until tomorrow.

However, if you do the harder tasks first thing in the morning, you attack them with full focus and energy and there’s a certain satisfaction knowing that it’s all downhill from there.  You got the tough stuff out of the way!  By working out in the morning, even if nothing else goes right throughout the day, you can at least feel good that you accomplished something important to you that morning. Not only that, but working out in the morning “jump starts” your metabolism and helps you have a higher metabolic rate throughout the day. And surprisingly, instead of feeling tired and drained after your “task”, you’ll typically feel more alert, energized and ready to tackle the rest of your day.

If you want to know more and you’re looking for a good book to read for your personal development, I would highly recommend “Eat that Frog” by Brian Tracy.
