  1. Hey Nick, im very impressed with youre transformation, Im looking to gain muscle mass and increase weight using p90x, i have a few questions I would like you kindly answer:

1- I saw your article about hardgainers and using p90x to gain muscle mass, you said that to increase your mass you have to lift heavy and lower reps, does that imply to all p90x excercises or only the ones that include weight lifting?

2- do you recommend a p90x+hybrid or not

3- what plan did you uuse to gain 30 pounds in 1 tound of p90x, did you use a hybrid or not?

4- do you recommend that I do traditional weight lifting while doing p90x or will that not work because of the muscle confusion technique?

Thanks for your time and support.

      Hey Mike,
      1. 8-10 max rep for all weight lifting; when I say max, I mean you cannot do the 11th rep because your muscles are already fatigue. For the rest like pushup/pullup, follow the video, which is max reps.
      2. P90X+hybrid is only for those who have completed at least 2 rounds of P90X.
      3. I did not gain 30 lbs in 1 round of P90X, but I gained that much in 1 round of Power 90.
      4. I dont recommend mixing traditional weight training into P90X other than the one specified on my recommendations for hardgainer. Attempting to modify the routine would usually backfire for newbies.

Let me know if you have more questions.

  2. Hello Nick, I ready your blog on p90x for hard gainers. I guess I follow under the Slim guy category, I have some fat around the waste and you stated people like me should cut down until we see our abs and follow the phase 1 diet plan on p90x. I weigh 135 pounds at 5-6. My concern is that If I follow the phase 1 plan I would be consuming to much protein. around 200 grams or more. My BMR is around 2000 calories per day and multiple sources say to consume 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per pound, .5 grams of fat per pound and the rest of a combination of all three to equal your BMR. I just don’t fairly believe in the “Macro Ratio.” theory such as 50-30-20.

So I’m thinking at just eating at my BMR, I already know how many proteins, carbs, and fats I need a day. So my question is will I still be able loose enough fat while eating at my maintenance level? maybe a body recomposition? and once I get my fat % below 8 or until I see my abbs then I start to consume more calories? maybe start off at 2500.

      Hey Chad,

Macro Ratio diet is a very good rule of thumb to follow if you’re unsure with your diet. When you calculate how much fat and protein you’d need in your diet, it’d become close to 50/30/20 ish ratio.

It is hard to say the recommended diet plan for you without knowing how you look like right now. But if you do think that you have some fat around your midsection, you do want to lower down your intake so that you could lean down and get the ripped look first before bulking up.

  3. Hi Nick I was wondering if I could get some tips. Im actually from Australia, My name is Budd Norris and I am 6′ and I weigh 167pnds(76kg). I’ve just ordered P90X so hopefully get it soon. But I want to gain muscle mass have you got any tips on diet plans etc? I just signed up for the Beachbody message board aswell some really impressive gains by the way. I would make you my coach but as Im from Australia, I dont think I can. Thanks Nick for any help you can give..
    Yours sincerely Budd
